Spanish Football Club Real Madrid Joins Sorare’s NFT Roster

Spanish professional football club Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Real Madrid, is the latest team to join the blockchain-based fantasy football platform Sorare.

Sorare tweeted the information on its official account:

“Real Madrid C.F. joins Sorare! First Edition card sales are on auction now.”

Sorare NFT Cards

With Sorare, football fans can collect and exchange digital cards in Ethereum (NFT) irreplaceable tokens to form teams and compete with other players.

Players such as Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Raphael Varane can now appear on NFT cards, with the Real Madrid addition.

Scarcity and uniqueness provided by the NFT technology push prices for some of the rarest cards up to thousands of dollars. The most expensive so far is a trading card featuring Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé, sold on Sorare for € 55,105 last week.

Nicolas Julia, CEO of Sorare, said Mbappé’s sales of € 55,000 were indeed a record. Previous work in the auction includes selling Neymar’s or on the secondary market peer-to-peer is Carlos Vela. The buyer judged the cards on two criteria: collectability (lack of playing a significant role there) and usability in the game (scarcity also played a part).

However, that doesn’t mean that only the wealthiest football fans stand a chance of winning, he said. In order not to become the pay-to-win stigma familiar to many competitive mobile games, the fantasy football platform divides players into different divisions, similar to heavyweights.

NFT Cards Are Not a Pay to Win

According to Julia, the NFT cards are not a scam or payout for winnings as you can only play them in specific departments (DIV2 or DIV1) where there is a shortage of similar cards (unique or very rare). The game is an even match; therefore people with the same budget play against each other in different leagues.

Additionally, players can sell their cards at an auction and maybe even make a profit. For example, the pseudonym Maxmersch – the new owner of the Mbappé card – has set the minimum bid at 122,682 euros after buying it and appears to be expecting to make another $83,800 for the NFT card.

The NFT market has recently broken new records. On December 2, Ethereum’s virtual track token was selling for $ 223,000. At the same time, the crypto art world acquired its first millionaire artist. Not to mention the current price increase.

However, that doesn’t mean that only the wealthiest football fans stand a chance of winning, he said. In order not to become the “pay-to-win” stigma familiar to many competitive mobile games, the fantasy football platform divides players into different divisions, similar to heavyweights.
