The Black Fractal – Digital Catharsis

Emerging Talent: The Black Fractal & The Cathartic Properties of Crypto Art

1) How did you get started on your journey?

I created The Black Fractal in January of 2020 for three prime reasons. First and foremost, as a means of art therapy, to help me deal with some mental health issues, that had been causing me trouble for some time. Second as a way of marketing my art as an e-commerce brand, and lastly, as a means of coming to understand the NFT space, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Prior to creating The Black Fractal, I had a vague idea of what Bitcoin was but knew nothing beyond that. Once I learned of Ethereum and the crypto art space it was all a downhill ride from there.

I’m heavily inspired by the states of consciousness brought on by psychedelics and hallucinogens, in addition to the mental hells of psychosis, and many spiritual and meditative states. Cyberpunk, Horror and Post-Apocalyptic video games and media were massive influences for me also. The late-90s nihilistic angst, agnostic spirituality and existential thought played a huge role too.

I’m intensely critical of modern power dynamics and hierarchies. Anti-authoritarian describes me well. Politically I’m an anarcho-satanist, and typically support leftists in the world today.

Empires and Capitalism do not sit well with me, and I believe we can build a better world by subverting the economic structures that hold back our species and our society. Hence, cryptocurrency and my interest in it. Kind of looking forward to a black swan event.

This rejection of established norms influences my lifestyle immensely and is a major motivation factor behind The Black Fractal.

2) Where do you see yourself in the future, in relation to your project?

Art, Economics, Finance, and Tech have been long-time interests of mine, and I’ve always been fascinated by the creation of value. Crypto art and NFT spaces are, as I see it, are the perfect combination of art, design, commerce and technology, and the explosive growth seen in these spaces is undeniable. I think we’ll see these spaces grow and diversify even further in the coming years, and I am building The Black Fractal to maintain a presence in the crypto metaverse, with a focus on collectable art, token rewards and play-to-earn gaming. Using my ERC-20 token, $TRIP, you can already earn crypto art by following and engaging with The Black Fractal on social media. I want to expand $TRIP’s use cases to include play-to-earn game support, physical apparel and accessory purchases, and a few types of reward.

I’ll be expanding The Black Fractal to cover more chains and markets, specifically increased support for Hive, and later NEAR Protocol. For the near future though, I’m focusing on investing and building a presence in virtual metaverses such as Decentraland, and developing the games for play-to-earn, and of course more and more art!

3) Tell us about your favourite artists and any projects you are keen on and why?

In terms of favourite artists, I’d have to say, H.R. Giger, H.P. Lovecraft, Zdzisław Beksiński, Ito Junji and Alex Grey. For crypto artists, I like the work of Pi-Slices, Glitch Black, Kristy Glas and Roman X, to name a few. I’d like to give a special mention to Rogan X as a crypto artist, and as an influential figure to me in the crypto space. He’s been a constant source of support, and he has helped me out far more than I think he realizes. There are honestly so many crypto artists with incredible work, it’s hard to narrow it down. The projects I’m most excited about in the NFT space are almost exclusively games and virtual worlds. Cryptovoxels, Decentraland, Somnium Space, and The Sandbox are extremely exciting for me, with a heavy emphasis on Cryptovoxels. The quality, useability, rate of growth, dedicated user base, and the near-obsessive level of dedication from their lead project dev, I’d say Cryptovoxels is the killer app of the entire NFT space. I’m invested in all four of the aforementioned projects, and I look forward to The Sandbox’s public launch with great interest.

4) Talk us through your creative process.

My creative process is diverse and flexible, by necessity. I like a calm and positive atmosphere when I am creating, as I’m easily distracted by chaos. I prefer to use psychedelics and other hallucinogens for inspiration, and cannabis for some of the early stages of the design process. As if this isn’t abundantly clear from a casual glance at my art, but I’m a big proponent for the right to alter one’s state of mind as one sees fit. Though I live a nomadic lifestyle, so such chemical tools are not always available, and my environment constantly changes. Seeing the world is a great source of inspiration for me, and I feel it keeps the mind fresh. Some days I work next to a pool, others a volcano, others a dense urban jungle. I like them all, and love the variety this lifestyle brings, meeting other travellers in the world, and in the metaverse.

5) Any other exciting developments you need your public to know about?

Keep an eye out for my 2021 Roadmap, I’ll be posting it early 2021. I’ve also got a massive redesign coming to my website, which will make it more modern, functional, and relevant. And even playable! I’ll be dropping gallery updates and new crypto art fairly regularly, and keep an eye out for my new token on Hive in Q1 of 2021. I’ll also be overhauling my apparel and accessories with newer designs, and my Cryptovoxels wearables are coming soon! I’m also working on a project to raise awareness of the safe and responsible use of psychedelics and hallucinogens through virtual spaces, it will be a non-profit foundation based in the metaverses.

I’d like to shoutout Mintbase and NFT Showroom, and once again Cryptovoxels as being influential, game-changing, and forward-thinking projects. Any other information I can provide, or if I was to lean on the details, definitely let me know!,634S
