Guild of Guardians, a mobile blockchain role-playing game (RPG) developed by Ukraine-based Stepico Games, announced it has raised US$3 million as part of the first wave of its “Founder’s” non-fungible token (NFT) sale.
The company claims that out of the total amount it raised, it received US$2.8 million within the span of 24 hours, with US$2 million raised in the first hour alone.
The Founder’s sale included various NFTs including guilds, heroes, pets, and energy boosters – each of which have a different purpose in the game. These NFTs range between US$200 and US$100,000 in price.
Guild of Guardians, published by Australian-based Immutable, is a multiplayer role-playing game (RPG), where players can build their team of “guardians” and compete in a guild to earn rewards. Blockchain-based gaming allows cross-game interoperability, which lets players use the same in-game items and characters within multiple metaverses.
“Being able to turn gaming into a career is a groundbreaking notion for many, and we’re pleased we are able to facilitate a future where career-based gaming is a reality,” said Derek Lau, game lead for Guild of Guardians. “But rather than ‘play-to-earn,’ we want to instill the idea of ‘play-and-earn’ — ensuring that players are not just playing to make money alone, but playing for fun and great gameplay as well.”
The company said it has amassed 133,270 pre-game registrations, with over 50% of all sales coming through referrals.
In a bid to expand the reach of the game, Guild of Guardians has partnered with The Sandbox, a virtual world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences using NFTs. The partnership will allow players of Guild of Guardians and The Sandbox to interact across both game ecosystems.
Recently, Guild of Guardians was also selected for the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab season six program, which supports startups that create products and services that have the potential to transform the entertainment industry.
