60 Minutes Covers The Metaverse
One of the longest-running and most-watched shows in American television, 60 Minutes, is exploring the future of the internet and is covering the metaverse. The two-part series, presented by Laurie Segall, and produced by Karen Ye, is available as part of the new show, 60 Minutes + on Paramount Plus. The first episode focuses on digital artist, Mike Winkelman, better known as Beeple, and the record-breaking sale of his NFT artwork for $69 million. The second episode focuses on how the metaverse will bridge the web with emerging technologies like NFTs and AR. It showcases how famed rapper Flo Rida, Emmersive Entertainment and Avatar Dimension, the newest volumetric video studio in the family of Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture Studios, worked together to create a 3D avatar of the rapper performing his hit song Low that will be sold as an NFT. The episode also profiles Upland, one of the fastest-growing games on the blockchain and one of the most sustainable NFT metaverses. It also highlights some of the concerns around privacy and ethics of the metaverse and even includes a peek at Segall’s 3D avatar being displayed in an NFT gallery inside Spatial.

Lancôme and Wilkins Avenue Use Spatial Computing For Immersive Shopping Event In Paris
Lancôme collaborated with Wilkins Avenue to host a 4-minute immersive shopping experience inside its store in Paris. Customers can get into a flower delivery truck and travel through rose fields in the Grasse, the capital of French perfumery, or across the streets of Paris using Magic Leap Headsets.
PacSun Sells Clothing Items on Roblox
PacSun is associating with Studio MELON and Roblox to create selected clothing items for the Roblox Avatar Marketplace. Roblox players can use their “Robux” currency to personalize their game avatars with Pacsun-branded clothing and accessories that contain a set of golden wings.

Wolf 3D’s Ready Player Me has partnered with Somnium Space to help diversify the avatar customization options for users. Before entering the virtual world, users can create their avatars from an uploaded selfie or from scratch, having a vast quantity of options to personalize their avatars such as facial features, hair, hair color, or clothes via the Somnium WEB client.
Museum of Future Experiences Announces Liminality
The Museum of Future Experiences is announcing its new show, Liminality. This new show will be a combination of virtual reality and ambisonic sound, exhibiting a compendium of immersive stories inviting “to enter the unknown in the pursuit of a brighter future.” The show will be a seated experience opening on June 11 in Brooklyn, NY.
VR Experience To Open At Miami’s Perez Art Museum
Marco Brambilla’s Heaven’s Gate is opening on June 17 in the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Heaven’s Gate will take viewers through a VR time capsule of cinematic sceneries and collaged film samples collected from different Hollywood images of celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Beyoncé, Christopher Walker, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Matthew McConaughey. Heaven’s Gate seeks to be a reflection on Hollywood’s ‘Dream Factory.’

Boson Protocol, intends to bridge the gap between the metaverse and physical world with virtual fashion NFTs for Decentraland avatars containing vouchers for matching real-world items. Boson hopes to use the mall to let brands sell their actual creations in a virtual retail space.
Sotheby’s Sells CryptoPunk NFT For $11.8 Million
CryptoPunks are a set of 10,000 pixel-art faces created in 2007 and generally considered to be the first NFTs. CryptoPunk #7523 AKA “Covid Alien” sold for $11.8M as part of a larger Sotheby’s auction, “Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale”, which totaled $17.1M in sales across works by 27 digital artists.
Doge NFT Sells For $4 Million, Breaking Meme NFT Record
The image of the Shiba Inus called “Shibe” is associated with the cryptocurrency Doge that recently surged in value. The auction was run by NFT Marketplace Zora and certified by Know Your Meme. The sale of the Meme is 4 times that of previous Meme NFT record holder of $1M for the Pepe the Frog Meme.
Mythical Games Raises $75 Million To Develop NFT Game Engine
Mythical Games, an NFT games startup based out of Los Angeles, has raised $75 million in funding for a total of $120 million in funding to date. The round of funding was led by the WestCap Group, and included participation from Gary Vaynerchuk’s VaynerFund, and others. The money is intended to grow the company’s first game “Blankos Block Party” and to create a platform to help developers build blockchain-based games and experiences.
New VR Headsets Include Metaverse Powered By Blockchain
Beijing-based VR company, arpara is launching its own dedicated virtual social platform to go with its new VR headsets. The arpara PCVR headset and their all-in-one VR headset feature dual 2560 x 2560-pixel micro-OLED displays with a 95° FoV. In the Arparaland metaverse, expected to open in August, users can create virtual items with ownership recorded on the blockchain, to be minted as NFTs for sale at virtual auctions.
